  • Taylor Sheridan is a renowned screenwriter and producer of hits like Yellowstone, Landman, and Sicario.
  • The 55-year-old is now releasing his first book, How to Survive in Prison.
  • Taylor teamed up with an ex-con to tell the story.

Taylor Sheridan is adding a new title to his portfolio, and this time, it’s not a heart-pounding, Neo-Western television show.

On Tuesday, February 24, news dropped that Taylor is working on his first book, How to Not Die in Prison, set to hit shelves this June. Now, we know what you’re thinking. Has Taylor Sheridan been in prison? No. But you best believe that won’t stop him from creating a compelling storyline.

Just as Taylor isn’t a landman but worked with Christian Wallace, who once was, to create his hit series, Landman, the 55-year-old Academy Award–nominated storyteller is working with ex-con Tom Nelson to bring this survival guide to life.

“You might wonder what in the world gives me the knowledge or wisdom to write a survival guide to prison,” Taylor writes in the book’s introduction, according to Simon & Schuster. “Well, I’ll tell you—absolutely nothing. I’ve never been to prison. But, like every man, I’ve certainly wondered how I would survive if circumstances ever put me there. That morbid curiosity sent me on a journey to understand the politics and dangers of prison.”

Tom helped him uncover what those are. “Hey, one of us has written hit TV shows and Academy Award–nominated movies, and the other has spent much of his adult life behind bars in medium- and maximum-security prisons,” Tom said in a statement. “If that’s what makes for good wisdom and entertainment, I’ll take it.”

As serious as the subject matter is, How to Not Die in Prison is slated to be “a no-bullsh*t, darkly funny survival guide to life inside a maximum-security prison.” It’s currently available for pre-order wherever you get your books.
